La mejor época para visitar Bologna

Primavera 2026/2027
Spring sees a rapid and welcome transformation from the winter chill to beautifully warm and comfortable conditions, making it a very popular time to visit. Temperatures ascend from a cool high of 15°C (59°F) in March to a delightful 22°C to 25°C (72°F to 77°F) by May. While March and April can still see unpredictable weather and rain, the season is generally characterized by increasing sunshine and blooming flowers in the parks and gardens. The pleasant weather is perfect for extensive walking and climbing the famous towers. The combination of mild temperatures and an already vibrant local scene, driven by the large student population, makes for an energetic and enjoyable atmosphere before the full summer heat arrives.

Verano 2026
Summer in Bologna is marked by hot and notably humid conditions with consistently high temperatures. Daily highs often peak between 30°C and 34°C (86°F and 93°F), occasionally climbing higher. The humidity, common in the Po Valley, makes the air feel particularly muggy. This is the main time for outdoor activities, benefiting from clear skies and long hours of sunshine, though the intense heat can be challenging during midday. The city is lively with festivals, and many restaurants offer outdoor dining under the porticoes, which also provide necessary shade. It is important to note that many locals take their holidays in August, leading to some businesses, particularly food shops and restaurants, closing for part of the month.

Otoño 2026
Autumn is widely considered one of the most delightful times to visit, offering a quick transition to pleasant, mild weather that is ideal for exploration. The intense summer heat subsides rapidly, with temperatures dropping from a warm 25°C to 28°C (77°F to 82°F) in September to a mild 16°C to 19°C (61°F to 66°F) by November. This season is the rainiest of the year, with the highest chances of precipitation occurring in October and November. However, the mild temperatures and the beautiful colors of the changing foliage create a picturesque setting for wandering the city's extensive network of historic porticoes. This period is also famed for its local culinary celebrations, including the start of the truffle and chestnut seasons, appealing strongly to food enthusiasts.

Invierno 2026
Winter in Bologna is cold, damp, and often foggy, a typical feature of the Po Valley climate. Average daytime highs hover between a chilly 5°C and 9°C (41°F and 48°F), with nighttime temperatures frequently dropping to or below the freezing point of 0°C (32°F). Snowfall is not uncommon, adding a picturesque charm to the medieval architecture, while the high humidity can make the cold feel more intense. This is the period of the lowest visitor numbers, allowing for an intimate, uncrowded experience of the city’s indoor attractions, such as museums and art galleries. The covered porticoes offer practical protection from the rain and cold. It is an excellent time to enjoy the city’s rich, warming, traditional cuisine.

5-Day Italy City Break Tour from Rome: Florence, Bologna and Venice

History, Wine, and Stunning Cities

This was my first guided tour, and I wasn’t sure what to expect—but it was phenomenal. Everything was organized down to the last detail, and the staff were incredibly attentive. The bus rides were comfortable and offered gorgeous countryside views. Florence completely stole my heart—standing in front of the Duomo was surreal. Venice was busy, of course, but walking across the Bridge of Sighs felt magical. I also loved how much history we got from our guide without it ever feeling like a lecture. The wine tasting in Montepulciano was another standout. It’s such a smart way to balance sightseeing with local culture. Would do it again in a heartbeat!

8-Day Discovery of Italy Tour from Rome with Airport Transfers: Florence, Bologna and Venice | Hop-On Hop-Off | Vatican Museums: Skip the Line

A Dreamy 8 Days Across Italy

From start to finish, this tour was absolutely magical. The pick-up at Fiumicino airport went smoothly, and the hotels in Rome, Florence, and Venice all felt properly 4-star—clean, comfortable, and in good locations. Florence was my favorite stop, especially seeing the Duomo up close with our local guide who was a total expert in Renaissance history. Venice was equally unforgettable with the walking tour in Piazza San Marco followed by spritz and cicchetti—it felt so authentically Italian. The motorcoach rides were comfortable, and I loved the Tuscan countryside views between cities. The itinerary was busy but very well organized, leaving enough time for some personal wandering. The Vatican "skip the line" pass saved us hours, which was priceless! I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to see the highlights of Italy in just over a week without stressing about the logistics.

Italy 2024!

It was a wonderful trip, and everything was done for us by our travel agent, she made the whole experience memorable. There were great hotels, great restaurants, and a great bus — we even had a toilet on our bus! Everything was super clean! It was great in every way. We had a great group of people, very knowledgeable tour guides, and they were very deserving of a nice tip! They are amazing!

It was an amazing vacation

It was an amazing vacation! It was so fun to meet new people and their families. To share in their special vacations like they shared in ours. Karly and Rafael were amazing! So much fun and so much knowledge to pass on to us. Very helpful every step of the way.

Preguntas frecuentes sobre tours de Bologna

What is the best time of year to visit Bologna to avoid rain and crowds?

Visit Bologna between April and June or September to October for mild weather and fewer crowds. These months avoid both the peak tourist season and the city's most intense rain periods, which occur in autumn (October-November) and spring (April-May), particularly in the surrounding Po Valley.

How do I get from Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport to the city center quickly and cheaply?

Take the Marconi Express monorail from the airport to Bologna Centrale in 7 minutes for €5. It runs every 7-15 minutes. Alternatively, use the Aerobus (Line 940) for €6, operating every 20 minutes. Both drop you at the central train station with access to public transit and taxis.

Is there a public transport pass in Bologna that covers both transit and museum entries?

Yes, the Bologna Card provides unlimited public transport and free or discounted access to over 20 museums, including the Archaeological Museum and San Colombano. Activate it upon first use; options include 24-, 48-, or 72-hour durations, priced from €20. Purchase at tourist offices or the train station.

Are Bologna’s porticoes accessible year-round, and how should I prepare for walking them in winter?

Yes, Bologna’s 40+ km of porticoes are accessible year-round and offer shelter from rain and snow. In winter (Dec-Feb), wear grippy footwear as stone steps and tiles can be slippery. Carry a light umbrella - porticoes cover most pedestrian routes, making walks comfortable even during Po Valley’s damp, foggy conditions.
