Throughout there year visitors can also enjoy day trips to Goat Island, which offers sweeping views of Horseshoe Falls and Bridal Veil Falls; the Cave of the Winds tour, which brings summer visitors as close as 30 feet from Bridal Veil Falls; and the IMAX feature presentation at Niagara Adventure Theater.

I booked this tour online and the whole experience was smooth from start to finish. The highlight for me was the Maid of the Mist boat ride—we got so close to Horseshoe Falls that we could feel the mist everywhere! At night, the illuminated waterfalls looked magical. The guide also explained a lot about the history of the area, which made the visit even more interesting.

A wonderful, well-managed and organized tour. The guide, Junior, was very clear, precise, and friendly. It was very enjoyable, thanks in part to him and the driver, who was always helpful and friendly. The hotels were comfortable and well-organized. Overall, a trip I would absolutely recommend.

When is the best time to visit Niagara Falls
For the full experience, June through August is peak season because all attractions, including boat tours and the Cave of the Winds, are fully operational. However, if you want to avoid heavy crowds and high hotel prices, the shoulder months of September and October offer pleasant weather and beautiful fall foliage.
Do I need a passport to visit Niagara Falls?
Whether you need a passport depends on which side of the border you plan to visit:
Staying on one side: If you stay entirely within the U.S. or entirely within Canada, you do not need a passport to see the falls or ride the boat tours (Maid of the Mist in the U.S. or Niagara City Cruises in Canada).
Crossing the border: To cross the Rainbow Bridge between New York and Ontario, you must have a valid passport, Passport Card, or an Enhanced Driver’s License (available to residents of certain states like New York and Michigan). Note that a standard "REAL ID" is not sufficient for international border crossing into Canada.
Which side is better: Niagara Falls USA or Niagara Falls Canada?
Both sides offer a unique perspective, and most travelers recommend seeing both if possible:
Niagara Falls, Canada: Known for the best panoramic views of all three falls (American, Bridal Veil, and Horseshoe). It has a more "Las Vegas" feel with high-rise hotels, casinos, and the neon-lit Clifton Hill entertainment district.
Niagara Falls, USA: Located within Niagara Falls State Park, this side offers a more natural, wooded experience. It allows you to get much closer to the rushing water via hiking trails and the famous Cave of the Winds walkway.
What are the top boat tours, and are they the same?
There are two primary boat tours, and while the experience is similar, they depart from different countries:
Maid of the Mist (USA): This iconic blue-poncho tour departs from the American side. It is the only boat tour that operates from the U.S. docks.
Niagara City Cruises (Canada): Formerly known as Hornblower, these red-poncho boats depart from the Canadian side. Both boats take you right into the basin of the Horseshoe Falls, where you will experience significant spray and thunderous noise. Both tours typically run from late April through November, depending on ice conditions.
