Is it safe to walk around downtown San José, Costa Rica?
During the Day: Generally safe. The main pedestrian artery, Avenida Central, is busy and well-policed. You can comfortably walk between major landmarks like the National Theater and the Gold Museum.
At Night: Exercise caution. It is generally recommended to avoid walking downtown alone after 6:00 PM. Streets become quiet, and the risk of opportunistic crime increases.
