Also referred to as the D.F., Mexico City is the federal city capital of Mexico. It is its own entity and is not part of the 31 Mexican states. Mexico City is the largest city in Mexico and is also the most influential in Mexican politics, culture and finance. The capital city is also the oldest of the Americas, and was originally built on the island Lake Texcoco by the Aztecs in 1325.
