Best Bristol Tours & Trips

This bastion of culture is southwest England’s largest city. Bristol, which has been named Britain’s most livable city, has numerous links with the early colonization of America. In fact, many believe that the new continent was named after a Bristol town clerk, Richard Ameryke. Visitors to Bristol will not want to miss the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum, whose 16 galleries depict the history and consequences of British colonial conquest.

10-Day Britain Tour from London: York, Edinburgh and Liverpool | 2 Countries and 17 Cities | 9 Breakfasts, 1 Lunch, 3 Dinners

Our first visit outside the US, well surpassed all expectations!

I was pleased to cover so much ground and see different English & Scottish sites/cities while learning of the historical significance of each. There was absolutely NO WAY I could have planned such a thorough trip on my own. The Castles, Cathedrals, Cobblestones gave me a true sense of history. The scenic pastures, Highlands made me feel transported far away from Denver, Colorado! British historical novels will now take on a new meaning.

FAQs about Bristol Tours

What is the best time of year to visit Bristol to avoid rain and crowds?

Visit Bristol between May and September for the driest, sunniest weather. July and August have the least rainfall and longest daylight, ideal for exploring Harbourside and Cabot Circus. These months are busy, so book accommodations early. Avoid October to January, Bristol’s wettest period, when outdoor plans often get soaked.

How do I get from Bristol Airport (BRS) to the city center using public transit?

Take the Airport Flyer (Bus A1) from outside the terminal to Bristol Temple Meads or Broadmead. Buses run every 10 minutes from 5:30 AM to 12:30 AM. The trip costs £8 one-way (cash or contactless). For cheaper options, use local bus services like First West of England 737 after 8 AM for £3 with advance booking.

Is Bristol covered by an Oyster card or contactless payment for public transport?

No, Oyster cards do not work in Bristol. Use contactless bank cards or the mTicket app for First Bus and MetroWest Trains. Purchase the Bristol Visitor Card for unlimited travel and discounts on attractions. It's available for 1, 2, or 3 days and includes entry to museums, Brunel’s SS Great Britain, and City Leap tours.

Are there seasonal events in Bristol that impact travel plans?

Yes. The Bristol Balloon Fiesta in August grounds flights at BRS during early mornings due to hot air balloons. Book flights post-10 AM. Also, Harbour Festival in July blocks roads around the waterfront with street performances. Plan routes early. Car-free days in September limit city center vehicle access - use park-and-ride services from Ashton Gate or Longwell Green.
