[16 Pax] 5-Day Wales Discovery Tour from London: Snowdonia, Cardiff, Pembrokeshire, Conwy & St Davids

5 day Wales Tour

We enjoyed the tour very much with the one exception that there were at least two too many castles! The rest of the itinerary was great. Our tour guide Andy was cheerful, knowledgeable and helpful, looking up anything that was inquired about, and he kept all his passengers motivated with a "photo competition". The visit to the " Village Through Time" was very good and most interesting, giving a broad background to the rest of the tour. Perhaps more contact with the local people would add some variety, such as a visit to a local Farmers Market or fish markets at fishing village?

FAQs about Harlech Castle Tours

How do I get to Harlech Castle from London using public transport?

Take a train from London Euston to Machynlleth, then transfer to the Cambrian Line to Harlech. From Harlech town, the castle is a 10-minute walk uphill via Castle Road. Total journey time is approximately 5–6 hours. Check Transport for Wales for current timetables and ticket options.

Is Harlech Castle accessible for visitors with mobility issues?

Limited mobility access is available on the lower levels, including the East Gate and parts of the outer ward. However, steep slopes, steps, and uneven surfaces restrict access to upper levels and towers. Wheelchair users should contact Cadw in advance for guidance. A virtual tour is available for those unable to navigate the terrain.

What is the best time of year to visit Harlech Castle to avoid rain?

Visit between May and September for the driest weather. Rainfall is highest in winter, especially October to January. July and August have the lowest average rainfall (60-70mm) and longer daylight. Even in summer, pack waterproof clothing as weather changes rapidly in northwest Wales.

Are there combined tickets or local passes covering Harlech Castle and nearby attractions?

Yes, the Cadw Explorer Pass grants access to Harlech Castle and over 40 other historic sites in Wales for 7 consecutive days. It costs £65 per adult and pays for itself after 3-4 visits. Ideal for visiting nearby attractions like Caernarfon Castle, Conwy Castle, and Penrhyn Castle. Buy online or at site entrances.
