This historic site near Billings, Montana was the location of the Battle of Little Bighorn on June 25 and 26 in 1876 between U.S. Army's 7th Cavalry and the Sioux and Cheyenne. Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument was first made a U.S. National Cemetery and later named a national monument in 1946 to remember those who lost their lives in one of the most famous battles in United States history. The 765-plus acre monument contains Custer National Cemetery, where many 7th Cavalry soldiers are buried. Famous Gen. George Custer was buried there until his remains were re-located to West Point Cemetery.
