[16 Pax] Rosslyn Chapel and Scottish Borders Day Tour from Edinburgh

Enjoyed the tour

"My friend, Catherine, was the one who found Tours4Fun online. She was the one doing the planning and booking online and purchased the package. Our 1-Day Rosslyn Chapel & the Scottish Borders Tour was very nice. We went to a variety of places. We saw the statue of William Wallace and went to Melrose Abbey. There was a third stop before we finally went to Rosslyn Chapel, which was the last stop on the tour. It was a positive experience and I enjoyed the tour. The next time we go to Scotland we would certainly consider Tours4Fun. They gave us a nice tour and our tour guide was knowledgeable about the events he spoke of"

FAQs about Melrose Abbey Tours

Is Melrose Abbey worth visiting compared to other abbeys in the Scottish Borders?

Yes, Melrose Abbey is among the most well-preserved and historically significant abbeys in the region. Founded in 1136, it features intricate stonework, a peaceful cloister, and the reputed burial site of Robert the Bruce’s heart. Its central location in the town of Melrose makes it easily accessible and ideal for combining with hikes on the nearby St. Cuthbert’s Way.

What is the best time of year to visit Melrose Abbey to avoid crowds?

Visit in late autumn (October-November) or winter (January–February) to experience smaller crowds. Spring (April-May) offers mild weather and blooming gardens with moderate visitor numbers. Summer (June-August) is peak season - arrive right at opening (9:30 AM) or later in the afternoon to avoid tour groups.

Can I use a Historic Environment Scotland (HES) pass to enter Melrose Abbey?

Yes, Melrose Abbey is operated by Historic Environment Scotland and accepts the HES Explorer Pass or individual membership. The pass grants free entry and skips the ticket line. Purchase passes online in advance or at-site. Note: The pass does not include parking, which is pay-and-display nearby.

Is Melrose Abbey accessible for visitors with mobility limitations?

The visitor center and main entrance are wheelchair accessible with ramp access. Paved paths cover key areas, but some interior sections have uneven stone surfaces and limited maneuvering space. A mobility scooter is available to borrow with prior reservation. Accessible toilets and parking are located nearby.
