Best Puerto Iguazu Tours & Trips

Located only 11 miles (18km) from Iguazu Falls, Puerto Iguazu is the only major city near the Argentina side of the falls. Though the falls were discovered in 1542, the area was not settle by colonial missionaries until the 1880s. The area steadily grew into a small city and has since based its economy around tours to Iguazu Falls. The city is connected to the Brazilian border town of Foz do Iguacu, which offers access to the Brazilian side of the Falls, and is serviced by Cataratas del Iguazu International Airport.

Best Time to Visit Puerto Iguazu

Spring 2026/2027
Spring is a season of vibrant renewal in the missionary jungle. Temperatures rise to a pleasant range of 14°C to 30°C (57°F–86°F), and the landscape is filled with blooming orchids and butterflies—thousands of them often flutter around the walkways. Rainfall begins to increase again, particularly in October, which is statistically the wettest month. This extra water helps the falls regain their summer intensity. Spring is a fantastic "shoulder" season for those looking to avoid the extreme heat of January but who still want to see the falls in their full, thundering glory. It is a prime time for the Full Moon Walk, a guided nocturnal tour that allows you to see the falls illuminated by moonlight, an ethereal experience that requires booking well in advance.

Summer 2026
Summer is the hottest and most humid season, with temperatures frequently ranging between 20°C and 32°C (68°F–90°F), often peaking above 35°C (95°F). This is the wet season, and while rainfall is high, it often arrives in dramatic, short-lived tropical storms that provide a brief respite from the heat. The heavy rains swell the Iguazu River, making the falls appear at their most powerful and "wild." The Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat) becomes an overwhelming wall of water and mist. Popular activities include the "Gran Aventura" boat ride, which takes you directly under the falls—a welcome soak in the summer heat. Due to the high water volume and summer holidays, this is peak season; expect large crowds and plenty of mosquitoes, so repellent is a necessity.

Autumn 2026
Autumn is widely considered the most balanced time to visit. The sweltering heat of summer begins to fade into more manageable temperatures, typically between 13°C and 26°C (55°F–79°F). The air feels fresher as humidity levels drop, making the long walks along the Upper and Lower circuits much more comfortable. While March can still be quite wet, May is often very pleasant with clearer skies. The waterfalls remain impressive from the late summer rains, but the "liquid gold" sunlight of autumn makes for spectacular photography of the falls and the surrounding Atlantic Forest. This is an excellent time for birdwatching, as toucans and parrots are highly active. With the summer crowds gone, you can enjoy the panoramic views with significantly more personal space and shorter wait times.

Winter 2026/2027
Winter is the driest and coolest season, offering a very different rainforest experience. Temperatures average between 11°C and 23°C (52°F–73°F), though rare polar fronts can occasionally drop night temperatures toward 5°C (41°F). This "tropical winter" is ideal for those who dislike humidity and heat; the trails are dry, and the sun is almost always shining. While the water volume of the falls may be slightly lower than in summer, the visibility is at its best, and the lack of mist allows for a clearer view of the entire 2.7 km-wide waterfall system. It is the perfect time for long jungle treks like the Macuco Trail, which leads to a hidden waterfall where you can often spot monkeys. Aside from the Argentine winter holidays in July, this is a quiet, peaceful time to explore the park.

Stunning

The views from the brazil national park are really something from another world. To me it was a mystical experience. I just laid down on the grass watching such nature marvelous cataratas. by the way the guiding was ok and the pre and port travel attention was nice as it shows they really care about their customers. If you come to Iguassu then you should book a tour to visit Brazilian side.

Iguazu Falls: Amazing Experience

From my point of view Iguazu falls is the best tourist destination in Argentina. From the Argentine side you can really feel all the power of the waterfalls because you have many trials very close from them: If you are planning a trip to Argentina, you have to see the Falls. One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.. I will never forget this experience!

FAQs about Puerto Iguazu Tours

How do I get from Foz do Iguaçu to Puerto Iguazú and cross the border efficiently?

Cross the Tancredo Neves International Bridge between Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil) and Puerto Iguazú (Argentina) on foot, by taxi, or local bus. Ensure your passport is valid and you have any required visas. The walk takes 15–20 minutes; border runs 6 AM–10 PM. Use official currency exchange booths—do not carry large sums.

What is the best time of year to visit Puerto Iguazú to avoid the rainy season?

Visit Puerto Iguazú between April–June or August–October to avoid peak rains. The wettest months are December–February, with high humidity and possible trail closures at Iguazú Falls. These shoulder seasons offer lower rainfall, fewer crowds, and comfortable temperatures for touring.

Is one day enough to tour Iguazú Falls on the Argentina side?

Yes, one full day is sufficient to see the Argentina side of Iguazú Falls. Prioritize the Upper, Lower, and Devil’s Throat circuits. Arrive early to avoid crowds. Use the park’s eco-train and open-air buses to save time. Wear lightweight clothing, waterproof gear, and comfortable shoes.

Do I need a visa to visit Puerto Iguazú from Brazil, and is the border open 24/7?

Most tourists from Brazil need only a valid passport to enter Argentina for stays up to 90 days, no visa required. The border crossing at Puerto Iguazú is not open 24/7; it operates from 6 AM to 10 PM. Arrive during daylight hours to complete entry and transportation smoothly.
